Theatre skills for life
The Cayman Drama Society is proud to present its training department. Since September 2016 we offer acting classes for children and adults of all levels, as well as bespoke workshops for corporate training or individual sessions for those with upcoming presentations, auditions or public speaking events. Here on these pages is all the information that you need to join us!
A note from our Head of Drama Training:
Hi! My name is Kirsty O’Sullivan, and I am the lead acting tutor at Cayman Drama Society. Some of you may have worked with me already, but for those of you who don’t know me I am an actress, writer, director, and acting tutor from Scotland! I ran the Edinburgh Acting School for six years teaching acting to children and adults of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds and freelanced for other well-known organisations for 10 years in the UK and abroad (Stagecoach, Scottish Youth Theatre, Brunton Youth Theatre, East Lothian Youth Theatre Network, to name but a few). I passionately believe that acting provides some of the most transferable skills any hobby can give you to take into your every day life including public speaking, social skills, empathy, assertiveness, and general confidence. It is also an excellent way to escape from life, and learn how to play again!
My aim since 2016, along with the wonderful Cayman Drama Society, is to bring drama and acting education to Grand Cayman so that we can educate and inspire. You do NOT have to want the fame of Hollywood to try out acting and enjoy it. We have worked with schools, charitable organisations, corporate businesses on island, and run our own classes since Sept 2016 teaching acting and theatre skills in many forms. In that time we have staged performances, began an annual Shakespeare Festival, and had some of our own students go on into the industry themselves. Acting truly is for all, and I hope many people from different walks of life keep coming through the doors at the Prospect Playhouse to try it out, and gain the benefits of walking in someone else’s shoes.
You can email me at training@cds.ky to ask for more information, reserve a place or just go on the waiting list for a future term. All classes and places available, are bookable by clicking here. I am here to help, educate, and inspire.
